What to expect

La Gomera boasts unspoilt landscapes and a distinct culture all of its own. On this tour, you'll visit this Jurassic-like island and discover Garajonay National Park, a string of villages and the charming capital, San Sebastian. Arianne, one of our guides, says of the island, ‘La Gomera is a totally different world – it's a return to the past, to the origin of the Canary Islands.'

The star of the show is without doubt Garajonay National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It's a mishmash of deep ravines and gorges filled with ancient, misty laurel forests and rare plant life. On a visit to its interpretative centre, you'll find out about its botany and history. You'll also get to know hamlets such as oasis-like Chejelipes, which is on the banks of a reservoir, and the northern villages of Hermigua and Aguilo. One of the highlights is a visit to a family-run restaurant famed for its jaw-dropping views over the island's volcanic landscapes. Here, you'll enjoy a typical lunch made from locally sourced ingredients.

And you'll get you to learn about local culture, too. There's a demonstration of the unique-to-the-island ‘whistling language' known as 'silbo gomero'. To round off the experience, there's free time to explore San Sebastian. Here, you can follow in the footsteps of Columbus before he began his first voyage of discovery. More than a visit to another island, a trip to La Gomera is a journey to another era.

The bus transfer from our hotel to the boat was way too long. It took nearly two hours because of all the pick ups at the other hotels.

Over 2hrs pick up to ferry. Over 2hrs drop off from ferry. Straight up steep roads with tour buses racing to get the best view points. Tour was German and English speaking, guide spoke in a monotone voice switching languages that you never knew if they were speaking English or German, set dialogue well learnt but might as well been AI. Vegan meal request, took fish dish on menu of boiled vegetables, salted potatoes and added a dull few salad leaves, dry and tasteless. Pudding a banana!

The trip was good but could have done with less stops and more time in the national park so we could have gone to the peak. Didn’t have time to go for a longer walk and explore which is what we wanted

We thought we were booking an English tour but our guide spoke mainly in German. Although she gave us information in English it seemed like she spoke far more in German as there were e German guests. The mike was too loud and the delivery of the translation was quite bland which made it boring to listen to. It also took way too long to pick everyone up before getting to ferry. Made it a very long day unnecessarily. La Gomera is beautiful so shame about guide and long pick ups!

We loved the tour as a whole, drivers were fantastic, however our Grman guide not do good, she definitely did not translate as much into English as she did into German, we know this as my husband speaks German. The thing I hated the most was that the guide asked for tips for herself as well as the driver, we have paid her in our fee for the trip. She should not be allowed to do this. She is paid a wage. We always give a tip to the drivers.
