Qué te espera

Oculta en lo más profundo de la selva de Yucatán se encuentra la antigua ciudad maya de Cobá. En este viaje cultural, recorrerás sus ruinas y descubrirás la enigmática herencia maya, verás una gran pirámide, conocerás a los lugareños y nadarás en un cenote sagrado. Valentina, una de nuestras expertas guías locales, nos cuenta: "Cobá fue en su día una ciudad enorme, que llegó a albergar a unas 50.000 personas en su apogeo. Cobá significa "aguas revueltas" porque la ciudad estaba situada sobre dos lagunas ventosas. No es tan conocida como Chichén Itzá, por lo que suele ser más tranquila y más íntima para moverse".

Llegamos temprano a Cobá para poder explorar el yacimiento en las horas más frescas y evitar las multitudes. Es uno de los yacimientos excavados más recientemente en Yucatán y fue una de las ciudades mayas más importantes. Destacan la Gran Pirámide de Nohoch Mul, de más de 40 metros de altura, y las estelas que muestran a las poderosas líderes femeninas de la antigua Cobá. Valentina añade: "La pirámide principal de Cobá es la mayor de la región. Es el centro de las antiguas "calzadas blancas" pavimentadas que se extienden por el yacimiento. Hay más de 50 de estas calzadas en Cobá y sus alrededores. Se utilizaban para el comercio y la comunicación".

A continuación visitaremos una comunidad maya, cuyos habitantes siguen viviendo sin agua corriente ni electricidad. Conocerá a algunos lugareños y descubrirá más cosas sobre sus vidas y tradiciones. Asista a una ceremonia maya antes de disfrutar de un almuerzo tradicional en un restaurante cercano. Termine el día con un refrescante baño en un cenote cercano.

    It's a great excursion, especially as you can now climb the Pyramid, and much safer than the last time I climbed it without the new stairs. Raul the tour guide was brilliant, he made the day.

    Tres belle excursion et une des meilleures que l’on est faite ! Et un cenote vraiment magnifique contrairement aux autres que l’on ait fait à Tulum et chichen itza. Et en plus la possibilité de gravir les 118 marchers de la pyramide.

    Raul was a poor leader. Our group was a mix of (mostly) English speakers and Spanish speakers - Raul seemed more comfortable when speaking to the Spanish speakers. His presentations were a confusing mix of English then Spanish back and forth - I found it difficult to focus on what was being said and got little out of the descriptions. Similarly, instructions when at the sites were unclear - and I was constantly unsure were I should be. The actual tour was good, the coach comfortable but spoilt.
